Following Neil Collingwood's DIY Thread on Sideways-Tech Forum I worked on the short side radius today and finished off the rest of the port. My goal for the remainder of the port was simply to clean up the casting and remove and intrusions and NOT to make the port large or remove material. My process was to take a small step on one port then move on to the next until all the ports were at the same stage, then I would move on to the next step and bring all the ports up to this spec. Without a flow bench I feel this is the best way to ensure that the ports are as uniform as possible.
I also got a quote this afternoon on a 0.040" head skim which will bring the CR from 9 to 9.75:1 which will allow me to run pump gas. That is a majour factor to me, I must be able to run pump gas. 91 premium sure, but I'm not going to 94+ because I will end up stranded somewhere. The quote also include the valve guide installation and 3 angle valve grinds on all the seats. I should ask about getting my valves backcut.
Shork block is coming back together, pistons/crank are back in. I'm going to pick up a gasket set tomorrow so I can get the end plates on, cam in and timed and continue on while the head is being worked on.
